This service can source a wide range of material that is unavailable in our campus library. The main suppliers for this service are the British Library and Trinity College Dublin but we also request from, and supply to, other Institutes of Technology. Normal loan items borrowed from other Institutes of Technology may be issued and taken out of the library for home use. Due to budgetary constraints, only postgraduate students may request items from the British Library and Trinity College Dublin and these items are for use in the library only. Access to eBooks and eJournals is not restricted to library use.
Postgraduate students, with the exception of taught MSc in Computing students can borrow resources from all LYIT suppliers. Undergraduate students and taught MSc in Computing students can only borrow books from other Institutes of Technology; they do not require special approval from their lecturers to do so.
In exceptional circumstances, when it is deemed necessary by a lecturer undergraduate students and taught MSc in Computing students can borrow from other suppliers. If undergraduate students and taught MSc in Computing students wish to borrow resources from all other LYIT suppliers you must ask your Lecturer to contact janice.margey@lyit.ie for further information.
Inter library loans (ILLs) are expensive. Currently, students are not charged for requested items as the cost is directed to their relevant Head of Department or Head of School. Most libraries do charge students a percentage of the cost and this is an area that the library administration will monitor in the future.
If you wish to use other academic libraries for study purposes a letter of introduction from the Librarian and your current Institute ID card is required. This letter of introduction can be obtained at the library information desk; when visiting other academic libraries please email or ring them in advance to ensure that you will be granted access
Staff and students from LYIT may visit the following libraries and borrow two items for one week from their normal borrowing collections:
If you wish to visit and borrow books from these libraries you may find futher information here. Alternatively, contact the staff at the library information desk in LYIT for an application form and further information. Each Institute library reserves the right to prohibit the borrowing of certain items and collections.
